Introduction

There are few things in this world that draw closer to me than good music. I am not an expert by any means, but I know how music has affected me and how it can affect others. I enjoy writing songs as a hobby and sometimes as a mission. My hope is that my music will reach someone out there who has been looking for something that I write: music that is enjoyable to listen to, relates to an experience or emotion, but is clean in content.

My style ranges from acoustic rock, to pop, folk, alternative, country, and jazz. I am influenced by several artists from very different genres. I never know exactly how the next song will sound, but there is definitely a "brand" attached to each one I write.

Where I Want to Be - Video

I have posted a very amateur video of "Where I Want to Be" which I wrote a while back. The recording is not the best, but hope you can try to enjoy it! Trista was very nice in helping me get that done and stacking the books on the chair for a "tripod".

Drums and Piano

It has always been my dream to play every instrument I record with. In the next few weeks, I will be getting the Yamaha DD65 compact digital drumset. In the past, I have been able to record basically everything but drums. This will be a new adventure as I have not had a whole lot of experience with them. Also, I am working on a song with a focus on piano. I am taking lessons now, but wrote most of it before then!!

Feet on the Floor - New Video

I was able to find a video of me playing "Feet On the Floor." I wrote this song back in 2005. At the time my wife was gone a lot, so I wrote this about the feeling of having someone gone. In my case it was my wife, in your cases, who knows!!

Lyrics

I am trying to get things recorded, but thought it would be nice to at least get the words down on the blog. Here are the words to a song I just completed a few weeks ago and I hope to get some sort of recording up soon:

Goodbye

I don't mind if your eyes can see me, if your eyes can see me I don't mind
I won't lie though your words deceive me, though your words deceive me I won't lie.

Cause it's all in my head, the words you never said

What if I said goodbye to the tears you never cried? And I will, and I will, tonight.

You won't go away, unless I don't feel you. When you reach out, I won't reach back.
You can say what you say, I don’t care anyway. I know who I am, and I know who you are.

Cause it's all in my head, the words you never said

What if I said goodbye to the tears you never cried? And I will, and I will, tonight.

I'm free when I'm without you, I believe what I am meant to do
And I see all the colors I could not see, I'm free, I'm free

Sorry!

Sorry I have been so late in getting back on. I have finished a few more songs and seem to be in a bit of a writing frenzy trying to get all the ideas I have down on paper. I am taking some steps to get things geared up with my laptop to begin again.

New Equipment!

My wife, Trista, got me an early Christmas present. I now have recording software for our PC and have set up a nice microphone and mixer my brother Mike is letting me use. I hope to have some more songs up as we go through Christmas and New Year!

Featured Song: "Tribute to Friends"

This week I am featuring "Tribute to Friends", the first in the video section. The performance and sound is less than perfect, but you get the idea!

This song started as a "tribute" to the 7 other directors I was working with in the New Student Orientation program and BYU-I. This was also the origins of the band name "Sonarsis." I had a friend in NSO we affectionately called Sonar, since she was quite loud and everyone knew where she was. Back to the song. Late summer of 2002 the song started with the chorus and guitar part. The first verse came shortly there after. In fall of that year, I moved in with my new roommates "Sonarsis". With Guitars Unplugged auditions coming soon, I concentrated on finishing the song's second verse. The song became even more exciting with the addition of the parts the band created. So, one afternoon, I went into my room and laid out the rest of the song. We tried out with it for Guitars Unplugged and it was a huge success. The video is from the "Best of Show" featuring the top 16 acts of the 200+ that tried out. It was excillerating playing on a marvelous stage in front of nearly 6,000 people!
